How
to Play Blackjack
Blackjack
is among the most popular online games on the globe.
A reason for its popularity is due to the mix of chance
with elements of skill that it requires for a player
to win at the game.
It
also owes its popularity to the publicity it is getting
from its card counting methods. In the game of blackjack
the player with the biggest total wins the game as
long as their total is not over 21. If that total
is more then 21 it is said that he has gone bust or
has too much value.
Cards
between two and ten get their face value, face cards,
jack, queen and king are all worth 10 and the value
of an ace is 11, unless this value makes the player
go bust then its value falls to 1. When the value
of an ace is counted as 11 it is called a soft hand
and a player cannot get busted if he takes another
card. The aim of each player is to defeat the dealer
and the player can achieve this by having the higher,
unbusted hand.
Neither
the player nor the dealer will win the hand, if both
of them have the same point value, this move is called
a push. Each player will play independently with the
dealer, so it is possible for the dealer to lose against
some players but still beat the other players in the
same round.
The
minimum/maximum bet that a player is allowed will
be printed on a sign on the table and will differ
from casino to casino and table to table. It is rare
for a casino
to offer minimum bets less than $5. After the player
bets for the first time, the dealer will deal the
cards, either from one or two hand-held decks of cards,
which are known as a "pitch" game.
The
dealer will then deal two cards to each player including
himself. One of the dealer's two cards will be placed
face-up on the table so all the players can see it,
and the other card will be placed face down. A two-card
hand of 21 is called a "blackjack" and the player
is an automatic winner. A player with a blackjack
is usually paid 3:2 on his bet.
